While the origin of this quote is unknown, it rings incredibly true in the nursing world. As CNO at Next Travel Nursing, I sometimes get the opportunity to meet nurses whose dedication to their patients and co-workers goes well beyond what’s necessary to just “get the job done.” For these nurses, their passion coincides with their career in a truly remarkable way.

It’s with great pride that recruiter Josey Crues and the rest of our team at Next Travel Nursing celebrate one such travel nurse, Amy Suzanne Barton, a recent recipient of The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. Please join us in thanking Suzanne for her dedication to her patients, their families, and her assigned facility!

Suzanne is currently on a labor and delivery travel nursing assignment in Florida.

Here’s what Josey had to say about this amazing RN:

“She encompasses all of the qualities that make an excellent nurse. First she exhibits the clinical skills and attention for details that are needed to focus on the safety of patients. She does this so well that doctors trust her opinions. On her first assignment, she had a patient in labor who was not progressing. She called the doctor and told him her concerns. He listened and decided to do an emergency C-Section to keep mom and baby safe. After the delivery, the doctor told Suzanne that she made a great decision and he was happy to have her on board.  

On this last assignment the facility didn’t have a budget to extend Suzanne. The L&D doctors heard the news and decided to have an emergency OB meeting. They fought hard to have Suzanne on board because of her great clinical skills. The HR team decided they could not lose a great L&D traveler. Despite the budget concern, they decided to extend Suzanne.  

Suzanne shows compassion for everyone around her. She has gone above and beyond to help not only the patients but also the staff. Her compassion, caring positive attitude is shown even on the busiest and most stressful days.  

I am very fortunate to have Suzanne.”

About The DAISY Award

The DAISY Award honors the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day. The award was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, a patient who passed away in late 1993 after being diagnosed with the auto-immune disease ITP. Patrick’s family brainstormed about what they could do in his memory, and vividly recalled the skillful and compassionate care he received from his nurses during his eight-week hospitalization. To say thank you to nurses everywhere, they established a recognition program known today as The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses.
